Walk description

This month we are walking up Ben Venue which is set in the stunning Trossachs.
The walk will take around 4.5 hours. It's a moderate walk.

We will breakfast at the airy Harbour cafe on the banks of Loch Venachar at around 10.15am before driving to the foot of Ben Venue.

Although Ben Venue is not the highest of mountains, it is rugged and spectacular and kinda complicated. It's not in any way dangerous or scary but is much the same as a Munro. Depending on weather conditions on the day we will go up either 'the north face' or the tourist route.

Asuperb day out offering brilliant views, and there is this wonderful pub for post-walk refreshment.

What will I need?

good walking boots
walking socks are great if you have them
a base layer and mid-layer/fleece
waterproof jacket
ideally water resistant/waterproof walking trousers, though other light weight, quick-drying trousers are fine too
hat/gloves/scarf - it can get very cold, even in Summer
suncream and sunglasses - well you never know!
rucksack (for packed lunch and layers)
clean shoes and a carrier bag (for pre- and post-walk)
water
packed lunch

Car-Share
We organise car-share from Edinburgh city centre. It's an informal arrangement that has worked brilliantly. Everyone meets at The Dome and gets into a car - quite simple! We can't guarantee a lift as it depends on sufficient drivers. So far it's worked every time.

If you are not driving, please give a petrol contribution to your driver, even if you know them. We do rely on people driving and don't want them to be out-of-pocket. If in doubt, err on the side of genorosity. It would be very difficult logistically, very time-consuming and expensive to make the same journeys by public transport.

Remember to bring clean shoes and a carrier bag (for muddy boots) for the journeys to and from the walk.

Cost per car

The journey to the start of the walk from George St is approx 127 miles. At 22p per mile that is a total of £28 per car. Your contribution is: £14 if 2 people in car, £9.50 if 3 people and £7 if 4 people. Please bring the right change if you can.

Walk meeting point

9am outside The Dome on George Street for car share

11am at walk starting point. Drive up the A821 towards Loch Katrine. Shortly before the loch, there is a turning on the left which is signposted Aberfoyle. Almost immediately there is a car park on the right which is our starting point for the walk.
